What is a VDI?
- It's like a remote desktop. You're essentially "borrowing" a work computer over the internet — everything happening inside the VDI window is on a remote server, not your own machine.
- Your work apps are separate. Apps inside the VDI (email, systems, work tools) are completely separate from your personal computer. Opening or closing the VDI will never affect your personal files.
- It requires an internet connection. If your internet goes out, the session will disconnect — but your work is saved on the remote server, so nothing will be lost.
How to Minimize the VDI
- Look at the top of your screen when the VDI is open. You will see a small toolbar or connection bar appear at the top center of the screen.
- Click the minimize button ( – ) in that toolbar. This will shrink the VDI window down to your taskbar without closing it.
- To bring the VDI back up, simply click on its icon in your taskbar at the bottom of your screen — just like switching between any open windows.
Tip: Minimizing is different from logging out or closing the app. Your VDI session stays active and your work remains open in the background — ready for you whenever you need it.
