Import bookmarks & settings
You can switch browsers without losing your settings and bookmarks for your favorite websites. Depending on the browser, your settings can include the following info:
- Browsing history
- Default homepage
- Bookmarks
- Default search engines
- Saved passwords
Add bookmarks to Chrome
To import bookmarks from most browsers, like Firefox or Safari:
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click More .
- Select Bookmarks Bookmark Manager.
- At the top right, click More Import Bookmarks.
- Select the program that contains the bookmarks you'd like to import.
- Click Import Done.

On a Chromebook
From all other browsers
Open your bookmarks
- At the top right, click More Bookmarks.
- If you already had bookmarks in Chrome, find a new folder named "Other bookmarks."

Get bookmarks on all your devices
Turn sync on in Chrome with the same Google Account on your devices. By default, your bookmarks will sync on all of them.

How bookmarks are imported
If you didn't have any bookmarks in Chrome, the imported bookmarks appear in the bookmarks bar.
If you already have bookmarks in Chrome, the imported bookmarks are added to the "Other bookmarks" folder at the end of the bookmarks bar.

Move bookmarks to another browser
If you decide to use a different browser, you can take your Chrome bookmarks with you.
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click More .
- Select Bookmarks Bookmark Manager.
- At the top, click More Export Bookmarks.
Chrome exports your bookmarks as an HTML file. Use this file to import your bookmarks into another browser.
Get your bookmarks, passwords & more on all your devices
When you turn on sync, you’ll find the same info on all your devices:
- Bookmarks
- History and open tabs
- Passwords
- Payment info
- Addresses, phone numbers and more
- Settings and preferences
- Payment info you saved to Google Pay.
- Passwords you saved to your Google Account.
Choose what info is synced
When you turn on sync, all your profile information is saved to your Google Account. If you don't want to sync everything, you can change what info is saved.
- On a trusted computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click More Settings.
- Click You and Google Sync and Google services.
- To find out what you've synced, select Review your synced data.
- Under "Sync," click Manage what you sync.
- Select your Sync option:
- Choose Sync everything to sync all of your data.
- Choose Customize sync to choose which data you want synced.
Keep your info private
With a passphrase, you can use Google's cloud to store and sync your Chrome data without letting Google read it. Your payment methods and addresses from Google Pay aren't encrypted by a passphrase.
Passphrases are optional. Your synced data is always protected by encryption when it's in transit.
If you’re having trouble syncing with your passphrase, you may have to update Google Chrome to the latest version.
